Parents are making a big reading mistake

Whenever I visit a book fair, I notice something interesting.

People rushing to buy collections from foreign authors — especially fantasy stories like Harry Potter. Parents are making a big reading mistake with their kids. We are giving them books about fictional wizards and magical schools…while ignoring the real heroes from our own history.

Now don’t get me wrong and just think about it… those are entertaining books.

But sometimes I wonder — why are we so fascinated by fictional wizards, when our own land is full of real stories far more powerful?

A child can name Harry Potter…but may not know Rani Lakshmibai, Swami Vivekananda, or APJ Abdul Kalam.

Stories of ancient Indian wisdom…Stories of our sages, freedom fighters, brave women, and our soldiers.

Real courage. Real sacrifice. Real inspiration.

This is not about rejecting fantasy. It’s about balance.

Because our land is full of real stories of courage, wisdom, and sacrifice.

So next time you buy a book for your child…add one Amar Chitra Katha to the cart.
